Matthew has focused his elder law skills in the areas of Estate Planning, Estate Administration, Guardianships and Medicaid planning, and has received multiple appointments as Guardian, Temporary Guardian, Guardian-ad-Litem, Court Evaluator and Attorney for the Alleged Incapacitated Person in both New York State Supreme and Surrogate’s Courts.

 

He was a staff attorney at South Brooklyn Legal Services’ HIV unit and the supervising attorney at Housing Works Client Legal Services prior to starting his elder law practice as an associate attorney with Brian A. Raphan P.C. in 2009. 

 

Education:

Matthew Carmody received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York, College at Purchase, his law degree at the City University of New York School of Law at Queens College, and was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1999.

New York Bar Association

Matthew also regularly volunteers at SAGE (Service and Advocacy for a Gay Environment), the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, and other Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender organizations.
